This letter is from the wife of a good friend to the Archbishop of Canterbury concerning the ?anti-Israeli? stance, taken by the Church of England. Janet is not Jewish and speaks up for the Christian community. Please forward this letter to people who can help to get this into the press, in UK and overseas, as well as into most particularly, the ?non-Jewish? community in general. Thank you. I have, for approximately 20 years, been paying by standing orders £150 per month to St John's Wood Church as well as making other occasional donations. I have today decided to cancel the standing order by way of my protest against the disgraceful motion proposed by Dr John Dinnen and adopted by the Synod to endorse the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel. At the outset I want to make clear that I am in full agreement that the existing situation in Palestine and Israel is a cause for concern and many people are living lives of hardship. However it is a situation that needs a more honest appraisal with all the facts from both sides being taken into account. The church should view the situation fairly and act with courage, not weak submission to those who use intimidation and violence or the innate threat of it and place a low value on human life both in this corner of the Middle East and beyond. The Church of England today does not have that courage. It is proving to prefer to appease and dither in this and other issues. One hidden motive behind this motion is surely to achieve what is inevitable: that is the undermining of Jewish-Christian relations in Britain and the further demonising of Israel, on this occasion courtesy The Church of England. To my mind, therefore, it follows that the motion is in substance driven by dubious motives dressed up as concern for the Palestinians. It is shameful that at a time when there are beheadings, forced female circumcision, intolerance, persecution and killing of Christians, destruction of churches and Christian graves, torture and murder throughout the vast majority of the remainder of the Middle East, not to mention Africa and China, what exercises the mind of Dr Dinnen and the Synod is a cause of questionable integrity, but ever popular with the Church and which will no doubt be used to undermine and harm the image of a tiny country surrounded by enemies. Israel, the only democracy in the area, is a place where all are free to practise their faith, a refuge for the persecuted Baha'i, a blessing for the Druze in the Golan who are intensely loyal to Israel and thankful to live there. While the State of Israel has resolutely never been accepted by its neighbours as a legitimate state, it has become a world leader in technology and medical science, has in its short existence produced numerous Nobel Prize winners, is a loyal and trusted ally of this country and the West in general, yet has been ruthlessly attacked by Arab countries from the outset and is still today under constant rocket attack and threatened regularly with imminent nuclear annihilation by one of its neighbours, Iran (including only last week). Only in recent years the ultimate resort of building a protective wall has virtually put a stop to the sickening frequency of suicide bombers in markets,restaurants, nightclubs and on crowded buses. Predictably, the existence of this security wall has drawn opprobrium from all the usual sources. The Muslim neighbours of Israel widely teach their children to hate - Jews in particular but us Christians as well. This state endorsed racism and intolerance is a major issue; where does the Church of England stand on this? Tהמשך יבא
